What is a registered behavior technician?

As a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you can seek professional opportunities in a variety of growing industries not limited to psychiatric technicians and aids, behavioral disorders and mental health, and education. In this role, RBTs often leverage their training and education to help the board-certified behavior analysts as they are improving people's behavior.

What does a registered behavior technician do?

As an RBT, your responsibilities may vary but, according to Indeed.com, can include the following:

  • Monitoring and sharing client progress with family members and caretakers
  • Assisting families to help the client achieve milestones
  • Conducting behavioral or other psychiatric assessments
  • Working with patients and clients to develop their physical and emotional skills
  • Observing and documenting behavior data, including improvements and regressions
  • Assisting patients with daily living skills
  • Helping behavioral analysts prepare client materials

Does this course prepare you for a certification?

This course meets the BACB requirements for 40-hour training. As of January 1, 2024, BACB requires that all Initial Competency Assessments should be completed by the candidate's employer. This course provides the 40-hour training certificate and an opportunity to prepare for the Initial Competency Assessment. Both the 40-hour training and successful completion of an Initial Competency Assessment are required for eligibility to sit for the Registered Behavior Technician Certification exam.

This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course whenever you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.

What if I don't have enough time to complete the course within the time frame provided?

The time allotted for course completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours. However, if you are unable to complete the course, contact the student advising team to see what options you may have available to work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee may be charged.
